Mechanism of Action

KPV is a synthetic tripeptide corresponding to the C-terminal sequence of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). Published research characterizes it as retaining much of the anti-inflammatory signaling associated with full-length α-MSH while lacking the melanocortin receptor-binding motif responsible for pigmentation.

In cell-based and animal models, nanomolar concentrations of KPV have been reported to attenuate activation of the NF-κB and MAP-kinase signaling pathways and to reduce pro-inflammatory cytokine output.

Literature also describes cellular uptake of the intact tripeptide via the di/tripeptide transporter PepT1 expressed on intestinal epithelial and immune cells. These findings are derived from laboratory model systems and have not been evaluated for human application.
